Why we support Ledge View Nature Center

Forty-four school districts and six colleges within a two-hour driving radius of the park visit Ledge View annually. They come for a hands-on educational and fun field trip. That’s more than 12,000 students a year. As many as 20,000 other visitors also come to the park, annually.

Visitors experience caves by exploring Ledge View’s cave system with a naturalist. They actually get dirty!

Visitors investigate winter in an old-fashioned way, on traditional wood-framed-snowshoe hikes with a naturalist.

With a naturalist, visitors discover that plants make sugar. They tap maple trees, collect sap, see the cooking process, and taste real maple syrup.

With a naturalist, visitors learn about sedimentary geology and fossils, and go fossil-hunting in Niagara dolostone.

Visitors on their own enjoy the nature center’s exhibits on bats, lake sturgeon, birds, and more; they go bird-watching, admire blooming wildflowers, hike through prairie and forest, climb the 60-foot observation tower, see the beauty of the natural ledges, or xc ski. They also come for naturalist-led workshops.
