2009 was another busy year at Ledge View Nature Center.
Volunteer projects included cave stairways, the completion of the kiosk, an addition to the storage shed, and a concrete pad with shoe brushes.
In addition, the park got a new cover for Montgomery Cave, lightweight and bat-friendly.
The prairie areas were burned to encourage forbs and grasses and prevent woody growth.
Thanks to Chilton High School Construction/Tech Ed class and teachers, Ledge View’s storage shed doubled in size. Materials were paid for by the Friends of Ledge View Nature Center and the Wisconsin Speleological Society. Grants and the FLVNC provided funds for storage shelving etc. inside the shed
Dave’s Sink is more easily accessed now with two sturdy wooden ladders, built by New Holstein High School Construction/Tech Ed class and a Chilton HS construction teacher.
The informational kiosk was completed and new signage was created for it, too.
In February 2010 Chilton High School students built us a welcome center, and soon we hope to install a solar-electric panel with a monitor that shows how much power is being generated.
