Friends of Ledge View Nature Center:

steve stenz 2-2010Friends of Ledge View Nature Center, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to the study, appreciation, and protection of the natural environment through support of Ledge View Nature Center in Chilton, Wisconsin.

The origins of the Friends of Ledge View Nature Center began with the vision and hope of just a few individuals who saw the potential of Ledge View as a nature center. Spurred by threats of quarrying the site, this small group organized the Friends of Ledge Park in 1979. Through their efforts the site was saved from quarrying and became part of the Calumet County Park System.

Fox Valley Mountain Biking Club:

72604740_1413187155504084_6614762308906254336_oFox Valley Mountain Bikers (FVMTB) was formed in early 2013 out of a necessity for mountain bike advocacy and greater access to mountain biking trails in Wisconsin’s Fox Valley region. Mountain bikers in the Appleton/Neenah/Menasha area have access to great trails within a 45 – 60 minute drive, but were looking for something a little closer to home.

At the same time, there was a push from other trail clubs in Northeast Wisconsin to form an International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) chapter and they were looking for a group from the Fox Valley to join their cause. FVMTB was happy to join and helped form the NorthEast Wisconsin Trails collective, NEWT for short.

NEWT has recently been awarded official IMBA chapter status as a part of the 2013 Spring IMBA Chapter class. For more information on NEWT and FVMTB’s sister trail clubs, please visit www.NEWTrailsWI.org.

Wisconsin Speleological Society:

Wisconsin caves and caverns are the principal reason on what the Wisconsin Speleological Society (WSS) was founded on. The WSS grotto was founded by Richard “Dick” P. Kuhlen, of LaCrosse, WI, in 1960 and became a chapter of the National Speleological Society (NSS) in 1961. The WSS is a non-profit organization that is interested in cave exploration, photography, mapping, scientific studies, tours and many other related fields. The membership of the WSS consists of a diverse group of members of all walks of life from geologists to weekend warriors to just being a monthly newsletter members. It is fun for all age groups.

WSS members and the general public under WSS member supervision have been actively involved with the removal of glacial sediment deposited by glaciers in Wisconsin caves. The WSS has been restoring several Wisconsin caves in the East Central part of the state at Ledge View Caves, Chilton, WI, Cherney Maribel Caves, Maribel, WI and in the West Central part of the state at Crystal Cave, Spring Valley, WI for many decades back to their preglacial natural state. If you would like to learn more about the WSS or becoming a member or just an active volunteer please click the join the WSS tab.
